At Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts, we strive to make our patients as comfortable as possible. In order to achieve this, we employ the most professional as well as friendly staff members to be a part of our team. Our Dental Hygienist, Beth Nicholl, is an integral part of our amazing staff. We asked Beth a few questions about herself and her passion for the industry so our patients can learn more about our team before coming in!

What drew you to the dental industry?

I was always interested in medicine as a child.  In high school, I was offered the opportunity to attend a trade school and I initially chose Nursing but there was not an opening.  My second choice was Dental Assisting.  I loved learning dental terminology and procedures and did extremely well in the program.  I then decided to continue my education in the dental field when I graduated high school by attending college for dental hygiene.

In what ways are you different from other Dental Hygienists?

I have the privilege of having an hour with each of my patients.  This allows me to spend quality time with each and every one of them.  I am able to educate and instruct them on dental procedures, products, etc.  I know each and every one of them on a personal level as well.  They are like family to me.

What are your favorite dental hygiene tips?

If a patient does not floss, I love recommending interdental pics and brushes. They are a great alternative and patients can carry them around with them in their pockets and cars.

What’s a common misconception about dental care?

A common misconception is that dentistry is painful.  In our practice,  Dr. Makrauer is very gentle with giving local anesthetic. We all make sure the patient is comfortable throughout the entire procedure.

What does it mean to be a part of Greater Philadelphia Dental Hygiene Study Club?

Being a member of the GPDH study club is wonderful. I get the privilege of meeting with my peers, making great friendships while learning the latest and greatest techniques, and products to further educate myself and my patients.
