Complete Comprehensive Initial Exam
A new patient exam consists of full visual examination of the upper and lower teeth and jaw. Dr. Makrauer will also complete a periodontal charting. This charting documents the condition of the patient’s gum tissue throughout the mouth. He will also perform a visual exam of the surfaces of the tongue and document any suspicious or questionable areas that should be tested by an oral surgeon.
Full Series of Radiographs (FMX)
An FMX (full series of x-rays) consists of 18 films taken every three to five years that is quite necessary for diagnosing issues not seen upon visual examination. These radiographs depict the bone surrounding the teeth in the jaw. They can also provide important info with regard to interproximal decay. Interproximal decay is decay found between teeth. Being aware of the condition of the oral cavity (your mouth) plays a major role in your overall health.
Consultation
Upon examination, Dr. Makrauer can ascertain which degree of dental cleaning would best serve you. Dr. Makrauer will then take various photographs both inside and outside the mouth that gives him yet another tool to aid in diagnosis and treatment. It also allows him the opportunity to present treatment during your consultation with a visual aid for you to view and understand your outcome better.
