Everyone wants white teeth. There are thousands of products on the market claiming to produce fabulous results. It’s no surprise that many of them do not live up to their claims. At Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts, we find that KöR Whitening provides our patients with the best results. Because the outcome of teeth whitening also depends on the condition of the patients’ teeth, there are multiple solutions for everyone.

We also offer take home trays that are produced right here at Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts directly from an impression taken by one of our assistants.  The patient purchases the whitening solution called Nite White.  They wear their trays for 30-60 minutes per day for two weeks.  They will notice improvement rather quickly.  Some patients will experience sensitivity but it is usually tolerable.

While the best whitening results will always be achieved through solutions applied by a dental professional, there are over the counter options as well. Crest 3D White Professional Effects Whitestrips are a popular tool that patients seem to like. You won’t get the same results that you would by coming to see us, but it may be a viable option for those who can’t come to the office. A standard treatment runs for 20 days. For the best results, Crest recommends using the product once a day for 30 minutes. Be forewarned that this product is not for sensitive teeth. If your teeth or gums become sensitive, stop using the Whitestrips.

Whichever product you decide to use, consult with Dr. Makrauer or Dr. Miller at Huntingdon Valley Dental Arts to make sure that you are, indeed, a candidate for teeth whitening. Some whiteners contain hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, which breaks down into hydrogen peroxide. This is because only peroxides target both surface and deep stains. Other whitening treatments are not as effective and could be damaging.

Over the counter whitening products contain up to 10 percent hydrogen peroxide, whereas products used in a dental office contain up to 25 to 40 percent hydrogen peroxide.  The higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide results in a whiter smile and longer lasting results.
